Dispensing Optician / Optical Assistant

We are currently in search of a Dispensing Optician or an experienced Optical Assistant to join our team. We are looking for someone passionate about eyewear and design, can provide fabulous customer service, and has a willingness to learn.

We have some exciting things planned in the near future including a complete rebrand & refurb, this means you’ll really have an opportunity to make a difference and further develop your skills. If you haven’t found the environment and people that bring out the best in you and want to be part of something you can be proud of, then you’re the kind of person we’re looking for.

The Role

  • This is a permanent position
  • Desirable working schedule: 5 days a week, Monday – Friday
  • Salary is commensurate with experience and ability, to be discussed upon interview
  • Holiday: 20 days (plus bank holidays)

Requirements

The applicant must have as many of the following qualities as humanly possible…

  • You are a qualified Dispensing Optician or, an Optical Assistant with a minimum of 2 years of experience
  • You are polite, welcoming, and engaging
  • You are a contributing team player
  • You are willing to attend conferences, courses, and trade fairs to keep your knowledge up to date
  • You are able to work well when under pressure
  • You have a keen interest in fashion, frames and optics
  • You must have articulate written and verbal communication skills
  • You must be able to interpret optical prescriptions and have a good knowledge of common ocular conditions
  • You must be willing to learn as the industry and our practice develops

Optical Assistant Required

We are currently looking to recruit a high calibre Optical Assistant or Dispensing Optician to work between two established independent practices.

Eyediology practice is based in the trendy area of Spitalfields and the Blackheath Eyecare in the leafy suburb of Blackheath. The role will be split between both practices.

The practice is family run and there is a great relationship between the team. The premises are modern with up-to-date equipment for testing.

Blackheath Eyecare is a clinical practice where the primary focus is on the quality of eye exams and associated care. We offer OCT assessment, comprehensive CL fitting services, Ortho-K, dry eye clinics and treatments. We also offer MECs and a specialist NHS paediatric service. As a staff member it is important to understand these services and assist with soft and RGP contact lens fitting teaches, as well as assisting with pre-screening and the medical services provided. We also have a fantastic range of eye wear on offer and a personalised service which makes dispensing very enjoyable. We have a wonderful local patient base with many families we have known for years and would like any new team member to continue to offer a personal yet professional service.

Eyediology has a fantastically diverse customer base. Located in the trendy area of Spitalfields, next to the City of London. We have a great selection of frames covering a wide variation in styles. Again, we offer a full range of optometric services. We are an omni-channel business with all our frames on display is directly linked to our website so potential customers can browse and look at our frame collection online.

We require the candidate to have the following skillset:

  • A good understanding of frames and lenses is essential for someone who is willing to learn
  • Excellent customer service skills; a smart, confident and charismatic person with a knack for building a good rapport with people.
  • Passionate about eyewear – experienced or willing to learn

  • Basic bookkeeping and Invoice payment processing
  • Scanning of clinical and financial records
  • Providing reports
  • Manage upload of products on to company e-commerce sites
  • Product photography and photographic manipulation
  • Carry out office and store maintenance
  • Oversight and management of general waste recycling and removal
  • Provide ‘day to day’ support to front line staff

This position may suit an Optical Assistant wanting a more administrative role, however on occasion, they may be required to help with practice staff cover.
