The Maui Jim company is known for cool, laid back eyewear designs that bring about a slow island vibe to anyone wearing them. Maui Jim began its company life in the 1980s as an answer to the brutal tropical sun. Most sunglasses of the era could not protect people fully from these harsh light conditions as even though they could reduce glare, they were incapable of completely filtering the severe amounts of ultraviolet light known to assault the Hawaiian islands.
In response to the challenge of protecting the eyes of citizens and tourists alike, Maui Jim sought to craft polarized lenses that could handle the harsh climate with ease. The initial release of eyewear from the company included a material construction form known as polarization plus. It was so advanced and new that the company had to patent it to keep it from being stolen and patented by other corporations.

Eventually the company would be purchased by Hester Enterprises in 1991 after they were made an offer they could not refuse. The end result was a staggering increase in sales and revenue that launched Maui Jim from a Hawaiian Island name brand into the true world market.

They are available in single vision prescription lens if required. There are three lens options:- Neutral Grey, HCL® Bronze and Maui Rose® are excellent for everyday wear, offering total glare protection in all light conditions. Neutral Grey for bright sunlight and the highest available glare reduction; HCL® (high-contrast lens) Bronze for glare reduction and added contrast on hazy, overcast, or foggy days; and Maui Rose® for the sharpest contrast and image resolution.
