Tom Davies began designing glasses in 1997. He had recently graduated from college with a film production degree and wanted to pursue a career in the creative arts. A decision to follow all of his friends to Asia for a year of work and study would eventually lead him to the door of a local watchmaker in Hong Kong. The watchmaker had a desire to get into the business of crafting eyewear and four years later Davies would return to his native England to start his business in 2001.
A friend suggested he create a bespoke service, a highly customized eyewear line, because it seemed like a good way to make a living. Tom Davies eyewear is full customization taken to the extreme. His company has stated several key factors in the difference between European and American cranio-facial structure that can benefit from a fully customized spectacle set. Tom Davies has been noted to cite that American’s have a tendency to possess ears that are 10mms farther back from the face and they generally have broader skulls on average; a slight shift in design between individual customers can save them a great deal of aggravation and discomfort.
