When booking with us, you can choose between an Eyewear Consultation and an Eyewear Styling Session, depending on how much personalised style guidance you’d like.

Both appointments include professional support from our dispensing opticians: we’ll assess your current prescription, talk you through the most suitable lenses, and explain which lens options work best with your chosen frames.

  • Eyewear Consultation: Ideal if you already have a frame in mind or simply want focused guidance on lens options. It’s straightforward, professional, and centred on making sure your lenses are perfect for you.

  • Eyewear Styling Session: This is a more tailored experience for those who want deeper style advice. We’ll consider your face shape, skin tone, lifestyle, hobbies, and personal style, guiding you through colours, shapes, and materials that flatter you. We can even offer tips on accessorising and making your eyewear part of your overall look.

Whichever you choose, you’ll be in expert hands. We’re here to help you find the perfect glasses – whether through a full styling experience or a clear, simple lens discussion.

Yes, absolutley. After you submit your reservation request, you’ll recieve an email with a payment link to process your booking fee; as soon as the payment is made you will recieve another email confirming your appointment and what to expect on the day.

If you have any questions or do not receive confirmation, please contact the team as we are happy to help.

Remember, your booking can only be confirmed once your booking fee has been paid.

The booking fee is non-refundable but will be redeemed against your total on the day of your appointment. That said, we understand that things can change, so if you need to rearrange your booking, please let us know by 2 pm at the latest the day before your appointment, and we’ll transfer your fee to the next booking date.

If you rearrange more than once or fail to attend, you will lose your booking credit; further bookings will be treated as new booking requests.

The cost of glasses can vary widely depending on many factors – including materials, lens type, customisation (like tints or transitions), and whether the frames are handmade or crafted from precious materials such as rolled gold or buffalo horn. Prices can range across the industry from very affordable to premium.

At our practices, we sit somewhere in the middle. Our curated collection is chosen personally with our clients in mind, combining style, quality, and craftsmanship.

  • Average frame price: around £485 for handcrafted or high-quality frames, including materials like Arograde titanium or fully handcrafted frames from France or Japan.

  • Complete spectacles: the typical price for a full pair (frame plus lenses) ranges between £650 and £1000 (based on 2025 stats).

We carry a mix of independent and designer brands, including Sabine Be, Lunor, Mykita, Ahlem, and popular options like Lindberg, ensuring styles to suit every face, taste, and occasion.

Our aim is to offer glasses that are not just functional, but something you love wearing and suit your personal style.

Our secure online booking system accepts most major card payment methods with the exception of American Express, Alipay & Wepay & Paypal.

We have 2 locations to choose from:

Eyediology Styling Opticians (Located close to London Liverpool Street, Spittalfields Market and Aldgate East.)

Blackheath Eyecare Opticians (Located near the old town of Greenwich at Old Dover Road, a stroll from Blackheath or westcome park train station. You can also reach this practice by train to the O2 Arena and a short bus ride.)

Absolutely! After your eye examination, we’ll go through the results with you and discuss any findings, whether that’s your prescription, eye health, or any follow-up advice.

If you need glasses or contact lenses, we’ll send you a digitally signed copy of your prescription straight to your email. Make sure our email is on your safe senders list so it doesn’t get missed. Our digital prescription service is fast – you can even check your inbox before you leave to confirm you’ve received it.

If you have any ongoing clinical investigations, your prescription may not be finalised immediately. Don’t worry – your optometrist will always explain this and let you know when everything is ready. Once complete, you’ll receive your prescription as normal.

We’ll also give you guidance on next steps, whether that’s booking your next routine check, managing a condition, or choosing new eyewear. In short, you leave knowing exactly where you stand with your vision and eye health, and what to do next.

We recommend having an eye examination every year. While you may have heard that every two years is standard, we take a proactive approach because prevention is always better than cure. A lot can change in two years, and annual check-ups help us detect any issues early – often before they begin to affect your vision.

If you notice any changes to your eyesight or develop new symptoms, you should book an appointment sooner rather than waiting for your yearly review.

An eye examination with us is more than just a vision test; it’s also a thorough health check of your eyes. Looking after your eye health is what we do best.

An Eye Examination typically takes between 45-60 minutes. But don’t forget if you’re also seeing out dispensing Optician to update and choose new specs you’ll need to allow a further 45- 60 minutes for your visit. (No one likes making important decisions in a rush)

A comprehensive eye examination does much more than simply check your vision or prescription for glasses. During your appointment, our optometrist will assess the overall health of your eyes, screen for common conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration, and look for early signs of general health issues like diabetes and high blood pressure. We use a range of advanced techniques to ensure your eyes are healthy, even if you have no symptoms.

Yes, both Blackheath Eyecare and Eyediology offer a range of appointments, including comprehensive eye examinations, eyewear consultations, and eyewear styling consultations.

Some specialist services – such as advanced imaging with Optomap and OCT scans are currently available at Blackheath Eyecare. If you’re interested in these extra tests, just let us know during your booking and we can arrange them for you. Otherwise, you’re welcome to book appointments at either location, depending on your preference and convenience.

You’re welcome to switch between practices as fits your requirement since both access the same system to view your eyecare medical record with us.

Absolutely. If you notice any changes to your vision, new symptoms, or anything that feels unusual with your eyes, you should not wait for your routine appointment.

At both of our practices, we take a proactive approach to eye health. You can book an appointment sooner than your scheduled review, and our optometrists will assess your eyes and vision thoroughly. Early detection can make a real difference in preventing problems from progressing, so it’s always better to be checked promptly.

Your eye health is our priority, and we encourage you to contact us whenever you notice changes – even if it’s outside your usual recall interval.

At both Eyediology and Blackheath Eyecare, your eye examination includes a thorough check of your vision and eye health. This typically involves:
  • Checking your prescription for glasses or contact lenses
  • Assessing the health of the front and back of your eyes
  • Screening for common conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration
  • Checking for signs of general health issues, like diabetes or high blood pressure

At Blackheath Eyecare, we also offer advanced imaging with Optomap and OCT scans. These state-of-the-art tests provide a detailed view of your retina and can help detect changes that may not be visible during a standard examination. If you would like these additional scans and are booking at Eyediology, we can arrange a referral to Blackheath for you .

Please note: we are not an NHS eye test provider. All examinations at Blackheath Eyecare and Eyediology are private, paid appointments. You can find our current pricing for Eyediology [here] and for Blackheath [here].

That said, some people may be entitled to a free NHS eye test elsewhere, including:

  • Children under 16, or under 19 in full-time education

  • Adults over 60

  • People with certain medical conditions such as diabetes or glaucoma

  • Those receiving specific benefits

The NHS provides excellent access to eye care for those who qualify, especially if cost is a concern.

Booking independently with us, however, offers a few additional benefits:

  • You can be seen as often as is clinically recommended, without waiting for NHS intervals.

  • We offer longer than average appointments, providing you with a comprehensive, personalised eye examination tailored to your eyes, vision, and lifestyle.

  • The ability to spend more time with you means your optometrists can provide detailed advice, lens options, and ongoing monitoring based on your individual needs.

Ultimately, the choice is yours. You remain in control of your ongoing eye health, and whatever you feel is best for you – whether using the NHS or booking privately – is entirely valid.

Yes, you’re welcome to bring someone with you – and for eyewear styling, having a friend or family member can make the experience more fun and helpful.

A few practical points to keep in mind:

  • The sight-test room can accommodate one chaperone only – there is a single guest chair.

  • We don’t recommend bringing more than two people overall, as extra visitors can crowd the space and distract from important clinical information.

  • During the examination itself, we do need your full attention.

So feel free to bring someone along for support or styling input – just be mindful of the space and the clinical needs of the appointment.

No – our building does not offer stair-free access for eye examinations.
We’re located in a Victorian property within a conservation area, and the design includes a narrow entrance and a spiral staircase leading to the testing rooms. Unfortunately, the structure of the building means we cannot provide step-free access to the examination area.

However, here’s what is accessible:

  • The main doorway is narrow but can accommodate most standard wheelchairs.

  • With ramp assistance, you can access the shop gallery, where we offer glasses selection, styling, and advice.

  • You are welcome to bring an outside prescription if you would like help choosing eyewear.

If you require a fully accessible, step-free eye examination, we recommend visiting our Blackheath Eyecare branch, which is all on one level and fully equipped for wheelchair access.

No – you can buy glasses wherever you choose. However, most reputable optical professionals do recommend having your glasses made where you had your eye examination, and here’s why:

  • Your prescription isn’t the whole story.
During your eye test, the optometrist learns important non-numerical information about your visual needs, habits, and lifestyle – all of which influence what lenses and designs will work best for you.

  • If something feels “off”, it’s easier to sort out under one roof.
If you have your glasses made elsewhere and later experience an issue, it becomes harder to identify whether the problem is:

    • the glasses,

    • the prescription, or

    • how you responded on the day (for example tiredness or inconsistent subjective answers).
When everything is done in one practice, the team can resolve issues more quickly and accurately.

That said, the choice is entirely yours.
If you’re confident in your prescription, we’re more than happy to help you choose the right glasses. If you’re unsure about your current prescription, we can carry out an eye examination before you select frames.

If you’re not yet sure whether our eyewear selection suits your style, you’re welcome to book an eyewear consultation first. That way, you’re not committing to a paid appointment and you stay fully in control. If you don’t find something you love, no problem – we genuinely want what’s best for you.

The more relevant information you bring, the better we can look after you. Please bring any glasses you currently use — even older pairs. They give us valuable clues about your vision history and how your prescription has changed over time.

If you wear contact lenses, bring the details of your current lenses or the packaging if you have it.

Any medical history, medications, or ongoing conditions are also useful for us to know. Many general health conditions and medications can affect the eyes, so having this information helps your optometrist tailor the examination properly and make the most accurate recommendations.

In short: bring whatever relates to your eyes, vision, or general health. It helps us give you the most thorough, personalised care.

If you’ve never been to see us before, then yes – we’ll need to carry out a full eye examination before anything else. Because we don’t have any clinical history for you yet, it wouldn’t be responsible for us to jump straight into a contact lens appointment. A full examination and a contact lens fitting go hand in hand, and it’s the best way for us to properly look after your eye health.

That said, we always keep things fair. If, during the appointment, it turns out that you only need a contact lens check and an eye examination, your fee will be adjusted accordingly. Your optometrist will let you know on the day if that applies.

If you already have an up-to-date contact lens prescription from elsewhere and simply want to buy lenses from us, that’s absolutely fine – we can supply them for you. We’ll assume your eye health is being monitored by the prescriber. Just note that we don’t keep lenses in stock, so we’ll order them in for you; they usually arrive within 3 working days.

Yes – if you have a pre-existing condition, it can change how often you should be seen.

At our practice, we recommend that most people are examined every year. However, if you have a condition such as diabetes, glaucoma, a strong family history, high prescriptions, or any eye or general-health condition that increases your risk, we may advise you to be seen sooner than one year, depending on the stage and progression of your individual case.

Because we are an independently operated practice, we are not limited by more well-known NHS recall intervals or funding restrictions. That means:

  • We can recommend clinically appropriate review intervals without the delays or restrictions often imposed by standard NHS sight-test criteria.

  • Since appointments here are paid directly by you, you are free to be seen as often as you like or as professionally recommended by our clinicians.

  • You are never prevented from booking earlier if something changes or if closer monitoring is genuinely in your best interest. You’re in full control of your eye health.

In short:
Annual eye examinations are our baseline recommendation, and if your condition requires closer monitoring, we will advise shorter intervals so we can protect your vision as proactively as possible.

We need to speak to speak with you directly to understand your experience level with contact lenses and  information about your eyes, to ensure you are booked in for the correct appointment and to provide you with the best possible eye health service.
