SPECTACLE FRAMES

At Eyediology we are genuinely passionate about providing our patients with the best possible care and attention. We also have a price match guarantee to give you the peace of mind that our exceptional service comes at a fair price.

Spectacle frames have evolved considerably over recent years. Frames are more than just an optical aid to correct your vision; they have become a main stream fashion accessory too. Spectacles form part of our personality and they should make us feel unique and individual.

Rest assured that if you have to wear glasses we will make sure that you will feel good and look great.

Eyediology has one of the largest ranges of frames available, with styles to suit everybody. At the last count we averaged over 1000 frames. We are also able to source many other frame brands. If you are interested in a specific brand of frame please email us the details and let us provide you a quote.

Choosing the right frame

Your frame choice must be able to accomodate the lens type required for your prescription.

Strong prescriptions

If you have a high prescription you need to choose a small frame, otherwise your lens will be considerably heavier and thicker at the edges. This will also apply to very fine and rimless frames which will not provide adequate support for the lenses. We will always try to minimise edge thickness and lens weight with the use of our ultra high index lenses.

Varifocal or bifocal wearers

If you require varifocal or bifocal lenses we need to ensure your frame choice will be adequate for your distance and near reading prescriptions. The vertical dimensions of your spectacle frame need to be a minimum size. If you like shallow frames we have special varifocal lenses designed to accommodate smaller frames, please ask for the Varilux Ellipse range of varifocal lenses.

Frame types and fit

The next most relevant factor is to consider the type of frame and its fit. At Eyediology we will consider all your requirements. Our professional dispensing service includes the following:-

  • Professional advice if you have difficulty in finding a frame that fits.
  • Taking appropriate measurements to ensure optimal vision.
  • Making sure that the frame fits your nose without slipping down.
  • The weight of your specific lenses (as completed spectacles are often heavier).
  • Full aftercare service. Our service does not end once you have bought your glasses. Please click here to find out more about our aftercare service.

Good and Bad Spectacle Frames

It can sometimes be difficult to tell a “good quality” frame from a “poor” one when they are new. However, our extensive expertise, along with our patient’s feedback, is that “you get what you pay for”.

A good frame must be:-

  • Light weight and strong
  • Flexible but also retain its shape and hold a lens
  • Durable
  • Hypoallergenic
  • Comfortable to wear

There are many different types of frame materials, they can be split into two main groups the “Metals” and “Non Metals” We will help you understand the key features and benefits of each as we describe the frame brands we stock below.

Lindberg

When Danish Optometrist Poul-Jorn Lindberg and Architect Hans Dissing created their first ultra-lightweight rimless titanium frame they started an eyewear revolution. Their combination of cutting-edge technology and design realised Lindberg’s vision to make glasses that the wearer could barely see or feel, yet could stand up to the rigours of daily use.

Lindberg's innovative frames do away with the need for welds, screws and hinges - the usual weak points in most glasses. The use of titanium means Lindberg frames are strong light and flexible. This provides the wearer with a sleek, chic yet functional eyewear, designed for men or women with an active lifestyle.

The Lindberg bespoke production process creates frames that are comfortable, resilient, strong and aesthetically pleasing. The patented building system means you can select the size, shape and colour of your frames and temples to suit your mood, personality and preference. As part of the custom production you can even design your own lens shape. This results in unique and individual eyewear. The only limit is your imagination.

Technology, functionality, aesthetics and your own personality combine in Lindberg glasses into a synthesis of eyewear perfection. In addition to the Lindberg patented rimless frames, Lindberg concepts inform ranges of half and full framed spectacles.

Elegance, comfort, style, strength, flexibility and your, lightest and most flexible has imitators but has never been bettered.
